Finding Your Voice

When we talk about ‘voice’ in writing, it ain’t just about style or sentence structure. It’s who you are, pouring out onto the page. For me, and for many of us in the Black community, this voice is a gift, a divine whisper that guides our pen.

My voice comes from deep within, a place where the ancestors meet the divine. It’s like sitting on Grandma’s porch, listening to her talk under the stars, feeling that deep, spiritual connection to something bigger than myself. That’s where my voice finds its power.

Finding your voice is like meeting with the divine. It’s a conversation, a back-and-forth where you listen and then express what’s been laid on your heart. For me, writing becomes a form of prayer, a meditation where I connect with a higher power and let that inspiration flow through me.

Now, it hasn’t always been easy. There are moments of doubt, times when I wonder if my voice and message will resonate with readers. But then I remember, this voice isn’t just mine. It’s a mix of the generations that came before me that needs to be heard.
